Situated in the deciduous woods of Chattanooga, Tennessee, a series of three treehouses stand guard over the forest, providing shelter for those who wander. Ruby Falls is a tourist haven in Chattanooga, TN near the Tennessee River and the Georgia border. Three treehouses are dispersed throughout the forest connected by paths and raised walkways. Each treehouse has a similar layout with a small kitchenette, sitting area, bathroom, and outdoor deck on the first floor. Gaps are strategically placed in the deck to allow trees to grow up through the space. From the living space, the adventurers can climb up a ship ladder to access a loft above for sleeping. Raised above the earth, the structure provides a sense of being suspended in the canopy above the forest floor. The vertical and diagonal wood siding is inspired by the surrounding nature. The deck features a cable rail system which maximizes views to the woods. The simple metal roof allows for low maintenance and softly echoes the sound of the rain from the many thunderstorms that Chattanooga experiences. The treehouse provides a sanctuary for people to gather and experience the Tennessee wilderness.
